Calculating Artificial Grass for Your Project

It’s also important to consider the direction in which you lay the turf; installing it in the wrong direction can lead to unwanted shine or an uneven appearance. For optimal results, ensure that all pieces of turf are laid in the same direction, unless there are specific design choices that require otherwise. Consistency in direction not only improves the visual appeal but also helps maintain a uniform texture and colour across the entire area. ODD-SHAPED LAWNS

If your lawn is an odd shape, an easy way to measure it is to draw it on graph paper. Take measurements at key points of the lawn (such as the widest and longest points), plot the points on graph paper, with each graph square representing 1 meter, and sketch the approximate outline of the lawn. Count the number of full squares, estimate the area of the partially filled squares, and add the amounts for an approximate total area. If in doubt, it is better to overestimate the area than to underestimate it or send us the sketch so we can assist.

SQUARE OR RECTANGULAR LAWNS

To measure a square or rectangular lawn, start by multiplying the length by the width to determine the total area. For example, if your area is 6 meters wide and 5 meters long, you can plan your turf purchase accordingly. In this case, you have the option to buy a 4-meter wide by 5-meter long grass roll in combination with a 2-meter wide by 5-meter long roll. By joining these two rolls, you will achieve the required dimensions of 6 meters wide by 5 meters long. Make sure to account for seams and overlaps when planning your installation to ensure a seamless visibility and professional appearance.

L-SHAPED LAWNS

For lawns with irregular shapes, such as L-shaped or similar configurations, divide the area into smaller rectangles. Measure the length and width of each rectangle to calculate the area using the formula: Area = Length × Width. Once you have the area of each rectangle, add them together to get the total area of your lawn.
When planning your installation, it’s crucial to pay attention to the direction of the grass grain. Aligning the turf pieces consistently will help minimize seam visibility and ensure a uniform appearance across the entire area. Taking these steps will contribute to a successful and visually appealing artificial grass installation.
